I just wanted to let you know that this post contains affiliate links, and any purchases made through these links will result in a small commission for me and don't cost you anything extra.
To make these monster drawings, you only need a regular HB pencil, but if you want your monster drawings and doodles to look extra good, you can outline them with a black fineliner like these ones. Personally, I also love this Tombow Fudenosuke brush pen for outlining. And if you'd like to add some color, I highly recommend the Ohuhu Honolulu markers. I love using them to color my drawings.

Classic Horror Monster Drawing Ideas
1. Zombie

Zombies are one of the most recognizable monsters in horror movies, books, and video games. Zombies are essentially just human-shaped, but in more unnatural poses, as they have no consciousness and are always slowly crawling forward. They also have old, torn clothes, barely any fat on their face, and maybe even parts of their head or other body parts missing.
I drew mine with one hand reaching forward, and the zombie looks like it's having difficulty keeping its balance. I also gave him just a little patch of hair on one side of his head and a big wound on the other side.
2. Vampire

Vampires are another classic monster, and many people dress up as one for Halloween. Vampires usually have two big fangs, pointy ears, a giant high-collared cloak, and slick-back hair. They are very elegant, and they would suck all your blood out of your body if you look the other way for a moment.
I kept my vampire drawing looking a lot like the classic vampire this time. I gave him a cape with the high collar, some big fangs that I imagine would be great for sucking someone's blood, and some pointy ears.
If you want to know how to sketch and color a vampire from scratch, I highly recommend you check out this step-by-step guide I made. I did make the vampire a little younger and more anime-like, which I like better.
3. Werewolf

Werewolves are half human, half wolf. Once the moon is full, they turn into a fierce wolf-like monster. Werewolves are covered in a thick layer of fur, and they sometimes wear torn clothes (as they outgrew them when they turned into a werewolf).
To make your wolf drawing look super angry, draw the eyebrows pointed down and add an open mouth with some very sharp teeth.
4. Mummy

Another classic monster is the mummy. Mummies are ancient Egyptians who were wrapped in bandages to be conserved forever. But there are many myths and stories about them being cursed and waking up from the dead.
Honestly, this mummy might be the most fun drawing of them all. I really enjoyed adding all the tattered bandages, making sure they overlap in some places and go underneath in other places. Also, the hand and the feet were so much easier, as they are fully covered in bandages too.
5. Ghost

Ghosts are scary, and they can phase through the wall and appear everywhere at any moment, so you better watch out. Ghosts are pretty easy to draw. They look mostly like a big cloth with torn edges draped over a body. They usually also come with a big scary screaming face hiding inside a hood.
I really enjoyed adding all the torn edges and the folds in the white cloth.
6. Grim Reaper

Next up, the grim reaper, or as we like to call him in the Netherlands: skinny Hein. No clue where that name comes from, though.
The grim reaper is always displayed as a skeleton wearing a big cloak and holding a big and sharp scythe. I think he looks pretty cool.
If you're looking for something that's simple to draw and still looks scary, the grim reaper might be the one to draw.
7. Skeleton Warrior

Didn't think regular skeletons were monstrous enough? What about this skeleton warrior ready to stab you with a sword? Or if you're a Minecraft fan like me, you can replace the sword with a sharp bow and arrow ready to shoot you in your knees.
You might think that skeletons are hard to draw, but you can simplify them a lot, and they still look skeleton-like. I definitely didn't add all the bones, nor are all the bones realistic. It still looks like a cool skeleton warrior.
8. Banshee

When doing research on what monsters to draw for this post, I came across the banshee. Banshees are ghost-like figures from Irish folklore. If you ever hear her scream, be ready for death. She has long flowing hair, a long dres with torn edges on the bottom, and jagged sleeves. But the scariest thing about her is her eerie facial expression. Her appearance alone is enough to scare (most) people off.
Fantasy Monster Drawing Ideas
9. Cyclops

Cyclopes are, like werewolves, humanoid creatures that became famous for having one large eye in the middle of their forehead. Cyclopes are often described in ancient Greek myths and are usually drawn carrying giant rocks on their shoulder. However, I drew mine with a big bonkstick (yes, that is the official term).
10. Minotaur

The minotaur is a legendary Greek creature with the body of a human and the head of a bull. In the Greek myths, it lived in the labyrinth of Minos. So if you like a little extra challenge, you could add a labyrinth in the background, or you could draw the minotaur defending the entrance.
I drew mine just standing there and menacingly holding his double-sided axe ready to swing at you if you step any closer.
11. Ogre

Next up, the ogre. I couldn't forget about this one. Ogres are big creatures who live in swamps and are super muscular, but their muscles are all hidden under a thick layer of fat. They have broad bodies, broad shoulders, broad legs. Everything is broad. They also have a huge underbite with some upside-down fangs and a big nose. Their clothing looks rough and worn out.
The exaggerated proportions of the ogre make it pretty easy to draw, as you don't need it to look like a realistically shaped human. I drew my ogre also with a bonkstick.
12. Troll

Trolls are another mythical creature and are commonly associated with forests, caves, and rocky mountains. They have squished bodies and long arms and often create chaos wherever they are.
I actually didn't know this until I did some googling about what to write about trolls, but in some legends, trolls turn into stone when they're hit with sunlight. So, you could add a cracked stone texture on it, or maybe his arm broke off. I just drew mine standing there, and of course, my little troll is holding a bonkstick.
13. Gargoyle

You could say that gargoyles are real creatures. They are Gothic stone decorations on roofs, walls, and fountains, and they have a function too. They spit the water away from the buildings to stop it eroding the walls. Pretty cool, right? I honestly think we should bring them back into modern architecture.
When going on vacation and visiting old cities in France or Germany, for example, I love to look at the large cathedrals and fountains and look at all the weird faces the gargoyles have.
14. Demon

Next on the monster drawing ideas list are demons. I kinda like demons. They have big wings, large horns, and sharp teeth. Kinda like a mix between a dragon and a human, if you ask me. And if I had drawn a full-body demon, you could see that it has a classic pointed demon tail too.
15. Dragon

I love dragons! And funnily enough, my best blog post is on how to draw a dragon. So make sure to check it out (it looks really cool!)
As you might have guessed, dragons are one of the most famous fantasy creatures, and they come in countless shapes and types. For example, the one I drew is a wyvern, I think. But you also have multiple drake types and some wyrm variations. They all look super cool and are definitely worth researching.
I wish dragons were real... They would be such cool additions to our world!
16. Lava Monster

I wanted to add one last fantasy monster drawing idea: the lava monster. I actually came up with this idea when I was watching a YouTube series of some Minecraft YouTubers trying to beat the Impossible Minecraft mod. In that mod pack, the lava became sentient and would burn you alive if you came too close. For these monster drawing ideas, I thought it would be fun to turn that lava monster into a real monster.
I made my lava monster look like an ogre-shaped monster with some stone cracks and lava flowing out of its body. I also drew his feet and big rocks and added a puddle of flaming lava below. And to finish it off, I added some flame hair.
Sea Monster Drawing Ideas
17. Kraken

Next on the list is the kraken. The kraken is another very famous mythological monster and haunts the sea. They are usually drawn as big squids with large tentacles that grab ships and make them sink.
I kept my kraken drawing simple and drew it poking its head out of the water, showing off its big tentacles, and causing some splashes and waves.
18. Sea Serpent

Earlier I told you about the types of dragons. The sea serpent is, like the wyvern I drew earlier, also a type of dragon. The sea serpent is more like a snake with a dragon head, as the name suggests.
19. Giant Squid Monster

If you ask me, squids are already scary monster creatures, but to make it extra scary, I drew a giant squid that looks super angry. Now, this is a monster!
Did you know that giant sea monsters are inspired by real deep-sea creatures? If you dive deep enough, you will find giant squids, and they really are giant!
20. Anglerfish

As I told you just now, the giant squid monster is based on a real-life creature, but these next three ocean creatures really exist!
You've probably heard about the anglerfish. It has fake prey on its head to lure animals. In my opinion, this looks a lot like a monster.
21. Fangtooth Fish

The fangtooth fish might be a little (a lot) scarier than the anglerfish. I do not want to hold my hand anywhere near this beast. It looks like it could bite it right off!
22. Dragonfish

Next, the only real dragons we get on Earth. This does feel a bit like the "mom, can I have a dragon? No, we have a dragon at home" meme.
But hey, it does make for a good monster drawing idea. Look how cool it looks!
The sea is full of fun, scary, and weird creatures, and if you want to check out some more drawing ideas, make sure to visit this sea creature drawing ideas post I made!
Cute Monster Drawing Ideas
In this monster drawing ideas list, I also wanted to add some cute monster drawings too. They make for some sun doodle ideas and are perfect for beginners who want to draw something very simple without worrying too much about accurate proportions.
23. Cute One-Eyed Fuzzy Monster

First, I drew this cute fuzzy monster with one eye. And now that I look at it, it does remind me of a mix of Mike Wazowski and Sullivan from Monsters, Inc.
Doesn't it look cute with his little smile and his one eye?
24. Cute Horned Chibi Monster

Next, I drew this cute chibi monster with large horns and tiny wings. And he has the cutest smile!
25. Cute Three-Eyed Smiling Monster

Next on the list is this three-eyed monster with a big smile.
26. Cute Tiny Monster With Big Teeth

I also drew this tiny monster with large teeth and small wings. It kinda looks like a tiny dragon that tries to look angry. What a cutie!
27. Happy Blob Monster

And to finish it off, I drew this happy blob monster. It does remind me of this cute ghost I drew last year.
