Social media is a vital component for all artists.

Sharing your work on social media is one of the best ways to get your work seen by others. And if you do this well you can get a lot of views on your art and maybe you could even make this your full time job. But to start sharing your art on social media you'll need to know what platforms are best for sharing art otherwise you might spend a lot of time on the wrong thing.

Here's a list of 5 platforms to give you an idea what social media platforms work best for artists.

What are the best social media platforms for artists?

1. TikTok

TikTok is one of the most popular social media platforms at the moment. It is quickly growing and it has a lot of daily users. Because of this, it has the highest chance of one of your posts going viral and when you post consistently you can achieve quick growth.

But apart from that what I like about TikTok is that it is one of the easiest social media platforms to post on. All you need to do is film some parts of your art-creating process and post it. The quality of the video doesn't really matter too much.

There is however one disadvantage of using TikTok to share your art.

TikTok is not the best place to sell your artwork on. Most TikTok users are quite young which means they don't have much to spend and when you tell them how much your art costs they will say that it's way too expensive.

2. Instagram

Instagram is a bit more professional than TikTok and it is more about looking good. This means that your photo and videos need to be at least semi-decent quality, but you'll get better at this the more you post.

If you want to sell your artwork and do commissions Instagram is a great place. On Instagram, people will actually want to pay for your art as opposed to requesting you to draw something for free like on TikTok. This makes it a good platform to start selling your work on.

It is however a lot harder to grow your Instagram page than it is to grow your TikTok page as there is so much competition and many algorithm updates. But the easiest way to grow is just to post whatever works on TikTok on Instagram too as Instagram is doing everything TikTok does but a few months later.

At the moment Instagram is pushing reels a lot I've noticed and as TikTok is pushing carousels Instagram does that too.

3. LinkedIn

If you want to become a freelance artists LinkedIn might be for you.

LinkedIn is kind of like facebook but than professional and it's a great way to show businesses what you can do. And who knows, maybe someone sees your work and is interested in hiring you.

LinkedIn is a lot more formal than the previous two platforms and the quality standards are higher. But feel free to break that pattern if your like, because by being less formal you can become more likable.

If you are looking for a place to sell your art LinkedIn isn't the best place.

4. Pinterest

Pinterest is kind of a weird one. Pinterest is a social media platform, but mostly it's also a search engine. Most people who are using Pinterest are often searching for inspiration to do or to buy something.

This makes it a great platform if you want to sell your art. However you'll need a webshop to link to for people to buy something.

Pinterest can be hard to get views on. You'll need to do a lot of SEO (search engine optimization) as it is a search engine. This is hard to do but when you do it right it can lead to many visitors to your webshop or your Instagram page depending what you link to.

You can find tons of videos about how to do Pinterest well on YouTube, but it's in my opinion one of the harder social media platforms to grow on.

5. Reddit

Reddit is such a good platform for artists because you can target specific groups of people who might be interested in what you make. So instead of letting the algorithm figure out who might like it you can just straight up post it on a subreddit full of people interested in the topic you make art of. This makes it a great place to sell your work.

Though, be careful with promoting your art to much. Most subreddit admins don't like it when you promote a lot or share links to your webshop.

Each platform has its own pros and cons. Just experiment with them and see what works for you and what doesn't. And which ever you choose to post on, just start posting. The quality will come later.
