I Had to Draw This Car!

When playing a game called Real Racing 3 years back I loved racing with the P1 GTR. It quickly became one of my favorite cars. I would LOVE to own a car like that one day.

A while back Lanzante released the P1 HDK, which is essentially a GTR-ified P1. From the outside, it looks almost just like a GTR with the same iconic big wing. When I found out about this, immediately an idea started to brew in my mind.

I had to draw this car!

Face-to-Face with a McLaren P1 HDK

I started gathering photos of the very few P1 HDKs I could find and landed up on this front view with a bit of the side showing. This is probably my favorite view of the car. Looking face-to-face with a McLaren P1 HDK. How special is that?!

Lantana Purple

Purple is one of my favorite colors and a car that is this special deserves to be colored in a special color. When researching McLaren colors, I came across this beautiful purple paint called Lantana Purple. In darker areas, it's more dark blue; in lighter areas, it looks more purple. When I saw it I knew the P1 HDK had to be this color.

Markers & Colored Pencils

For this drawing, I decided to use mixed media to make this car really come to life. I drew this car on sturdy 200gsm paper. I first used alcohol markers to color the base and I then used high-quality and fade-resistant colored pencils to color all the details and color nuances. Lastly, I used an acrylic paint marker to add a few very bright white highlights to make the car really pop.
