Drawing Supplies I Used For This Dandelion Drawing

To make this dandelion drawing, I used a few colored pencils.

I used Chromaflow colored pencils in the colors 2400 White, 1900 Burnt Sienna, and 1800 Grass green.

And I used a white Posca PC-1MR paint marker for some bright highlights.

I made this drawing on black Winsor & Newton Mixed Media paper.

How Do You Draw A Dandelion?

To draw a dandelion, you first sketch a circle on a piece of black paper. Next, you color white lines of varying lengths pointing outwards from the center in that circle. After that, you color a bunch of lines sticking out the ends of each of those lines. Then you color the center of the dandelion brown and the stem green. And if you'd like, you can add a few fly-away seeds too.

Step 1: Sketch The Outline

To draw a dandelion, I first sketched the outline on a piece of black paper.

The outline is just a circle with 2 parallel straight lines at the bottom.

Step 2: Draw A Bunch Of Straight White Lines Pointing Away From The Center

Next, I added a bunch of white lines with a white colored pencil.

All the lines point outwards from the center. I tried to add a little bit of variation in the direction to make them not all parallel to each other.

The lines in the center are very short and the ones on the outer edge are long.

Step 3: Draw A Lot Of "ᗐ" Shapes On The Outer Edge

After that, I colored the heads of the seeds by adding "ᗐ" shapes but with 5 lines or so on the end of each line on the outer edge.

Step 4: Draw Some Crosses In The Center

Then, I colored the heads of the seeds in the center. To do that I colored crosses with 4 lines (the shape you get when overlaying + and ×) on the ends of each line.

After that, the outer edge didn't look dense enough so I added a bunch more "ᗐ" there.

Looking back at it now, I think it would've looked a bit better if I hadn't added as many crosses to the center.

Step 5: Color The Center And The Stem

Next, I colored a small circle in the center of the dandelion with a brown pencil. I tried to avoid coloring over the white.

I also colored the stem with a green pencil. I used more pressure on the left half than the right half to make the left lighter.

Step 6: Color Some Fly-Away Seeds

After that, I added some fly-away seeds by coloring some white lines kinda floating to the left of the dandelion.

I colored the end on the left brown and added 6 or so lines sticking out the other end.

Step 7: Add A Few Highlights

Lastly, I added some highlights on the heads of the seeds, especially in the center of the dandelion, with a white Posca paint marker.

And That's How You Draw A Dandelion
